If you are bored of ordinary tourist routes and are an adventurer who wants to explore Iceland's rich Viking history step by step in harsh natural conditions, this three-day route is perfectly designed for you. Focusing on Geirsstaðakirkja and its surroundings, this tour aims not only to visit historical sites but also to test your body and mind with challenging nature walks. We begin our first day by examining the historical Geirsstaðakirkja church ruins, shedding light on Iceland's early Christian history. After this historical discovery, we pass through the wilderness of Búðarvatn and Krókavatn lakes, and take our first serious hikes on the steep trails of the roaring Bæjarfoss and impressive Lagarfoss waterfalls. On the second day, we dive deeper into Iceland's mystical nature. You can birdwatch around Húseyartjörn and Eiðavatn and breathe in the isolated atmosphere. Towards the end of the day, you will feel the adrenaline by climbing towards the majestic Súlur peaks, accompanied by wonderful panoramas. The third day is the scene of the biggest physical challenge of our tour. We do a demanding trek in the magnificent Stórurð valley, where giant rocks, glacial lakes, and steep mountain peaks exist together. Afterwards, we listen to the whispers of history while resting in the shadows of the Geldingafjall, Dyr, and Sönghofsfjall mountains. This tour is strictly for hiking and history enthusiasts. Hiking in Iceland's rugged terrain, especially in the Stórurð region, requires sturdy hiking boots, professional outer layer clothing, and good physical condition. Although driving distances are not terribly long, the technical difficulties of the rough roads reduce speed significantly. Please keep in mind that the mountainous parts of the route are inaccessible in winter due to snow, storms, and closed F-roads. To stay safe in rural areas, we strongly advise you to plan this adventure exclusively during the summer season.
