About Iğdır: Where the Sun Rises

Located at the easternmost edge of Turkey, in the lands where the sun first greets the country, Iğdır offers a distinct geographical richness with its unique microclimate and fertile plain at the foothills of Mount Ararat. This comprehensive four-day tour promises an adventure that is both challenging and relaxing, ranging from endless mountain peaks to impressive monument museums and camping areas. Specially designed for those who love hiking and wish to witness the sorrowful history of the recent era, this route reveals the multifaceted character of the region.

The first day of the route is entirely focused on high-altitude nature explorations. After feeling the serenity of the morning around Abbasgöl, one of the region's natural water sources, you embark on a challenging nature walk on the steep slopes of Biçen Tepesi, which defies the sky with its peaks, the Tekaltı Dağı famous for its sharp rocky structure, and Kavakdağı Tepesi. On the second day, you turn the route to health and recent history by visiting the Tuzluca Tuz Mağaraları, known to heal respiratory diseases and fascinating with their massive galleries. Afterwards, you rest at the Iğdır Millet Bahçesi and pay homage to the region's tragic recent history by visiting the Iğdır Soykırım Anıt-Müzesi and the Ermeniler Tarafından Katledilen Şehit Türkler Anıtı.

The third day begins with a visit to the Iğdır Müzesi, which houses the region's archaeological and cultural accumulation. Right after, you examine the Karakoyunlu Açık Hava Müzesi, which draws attention with its massive ram-headed tombstones reflecting the historical roots of the region. In the second half of the day, you return to nature by climbing the slopes of the magnificent Pamukdağı and spend the night under the stars, alone with nature in the Camp 2 area. On the final day of the tour, after examining the ruins of Korhan Kalesi Igdir, a historical defense point, you embark on an exciting exploration to trace the legendary Noah's Ark. You complete your adventure with memories by taking a final nature break at the Zeki Guide's Camp 2 area and looking at the Iğdır Plain one last time from the heights of the Mıh.
